I couldn't agree more – platforms don't solve challenges. Services do. I really feel the urge to let go of calling it portals, intranets, wikis, blogs, microblogs. Employees don't care if they blog or microblog. They want to work with something that makes their life easier – makes their work flow around their preferences and capabilities. Looking at it as designed services (consumerized business IT) that sit on top of the platforms and their bells and whistles will be the future for digital desktops.
